I've definitely enjoyed Smauggy's other work. Sins of the Father (love Kida and Issac), Love a Demon, and Untamed (definitely invested in Cole & Ava & my favorite throuple). She has a formula: Black girl, 2-3 white guys. The heroine is gorgeous, but she's definitely going to get some racist/racialized hate. If there's a Black male then he's definitely related to the MC. (Not sure why this is under Black Erotica, you will not be getting any Black romance/sex from Smauggy) However, although she's writing very mature content, the writing comes off immature. Villainous sisters are childlike to the very end. Characters catch a bad guy in an act, literally logically question their actions and the holes in their story in the moment, but still shrug it off. That's bad writing to extend a reveal. There's nothing about the heroine's time with her rapists that should lead to what ultimately becomes a love story. This needed to be fleshed out more instead of jumping to elves, particularly with Xander. The story feels both incredibly drawn out (the brutality on the MC) and rushed (the calm down switch for the guys and the elven portion). There are parts I liked: The guys' backstory, Pokuua, Daemon, Delilah, and the Dark Elves. I was pleasantly surprised that Cas doesn't become Phae's third, although there were hints that he may be. He needs maturing and I'm actually more interested in the Cas-Pok-Daemon-Var that is maybe peeking around the corner.Although the story is fantasy/medieval-esque there are weird anachronisms like "kumbaya" and "throwing down in the kitchen". They are jarring. It would actually be better for this story if the universe was not connected to the rest of the universe. Seeing Kida and the guys was cute and understandable, but the Mav 3 was not. This story has a world that can stand on its own.This needs some more editing/revisions to tighten things up. This feels more like fanfic/super dirty YA. I love this story, with the characters and storyline there's enough drama, intrigue, suspense and comedy to keep you thoroughly entertained till the end. Although I will admit that I didn't want this story to end. I hope in future books we definitely get more information on the dark elves, Daemon and the visions Phaedra had. It was very fascinating on all the hidden secrets and truths that were revealed. I really hope her remaining sisters and husbands don't listen and try to act up. They definitely need to be taught a valuable painful lesson. I'm excited for the next book from Smauggy. Highly recommend!!!
